Cookie Policy
What cookies and similar technologies the FAQIR Institute website uses, why we use them, and how you stay in control.
Summary
We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies. Some are strictly necessary to make the site work; others only run if you give us permission through the cookie banner.
You can change your choices at any time using the cookie settings link below, or by clearing this site's storage in your browser.
Article 1 — Who we are
This website is operated by:
- FAQIR Institute — limited liability company under Belgian law.
Koutergatstraat 2, 1703 Dilbeek · Enterprise number 0786.609.226
For questions about this Cookie Policy, contact privacy@faqir.eu.
Article 2 — What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your device when you visit. Similar technologies — such as localStorage and sessionStorage — store comparable information inside your browser. In this Cookie Policy we use the word "cookies" to cover all of these.
Cookies are either first-party (set by faqir.eu) or third-party (set by services we embed, such as Google Analytics or Cloudflare).
Article 3 — Categories we use
3.1 Strictly necessary
These cookies are required for the site to function. They are set automatically and cannot be switched off in the cookie banner. Examples on this site:
- faqir.consent.v1 — first-party, stored in browser localStorage. Records your cookie-banner choices so we don't ask you again on every page. Persists until you clear site data.
- Cloudflare Turnstile — third-party. When you submit the contact form we run an anti-bot check from challenges.cloudflare.com. Cloudflare may temporarily set cookies during that check. See cloudflare.com/cookie-policy.
3.2 Analytics — requires your consent
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are useful and where the site is hard to use. We run it with Google Consent Mode v2: until you click "Accept" (or enable the Analytics toggle), Google receives only anonymous, cookieless pings — no identifiers or behaviour are stored on your device.
If you grant consent, the following cookies are set:
- _ga — third-party (google.com), used by GA4 to distinguish unique users. Lifespan: 2 years.
- _ga_<container-id> — third-party (google.com), used to persist session state. Lifespan: 2 years.
Legal basis: consent (Art. 6.1.a GDPR).
Processor: Google Ireland Limited. See policies.google.com/privacy.
International transfers: Google may transfer data outside the EEA under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and Standard Contractual Clauses.
3.3 Marketing — requires your consent
The cookie banner offers a Marketing toggle for audience-targeting cookies used with our research briefs and newsletter. At the moment, no marketing cookies are placed on this site. If that changes, we will update this Cookie Policy and prompt you to renew your consent.
3.4 Newsletter subscription — Mailcoach
When you tick the consent box on the newsletter signup and submit your email, your address is sent to Mailcoach (operated by Spatie BV, Antwerp, Belgium — established in the EU), which acts as our email-list processor under a Data Processing Agreement. Mailcoach then sends a confirmation email to verify the address belongs to you; you are only added to the list after you click the confirmation link (double opt-in).
Along with your email we record the time of your consent, your IP address, and your browser's user-agent string. We keep these as evidence of consent (Art. 7 GDPR) for as long as you remain subscribed. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every newsletter email; that also removes the consent record on request. Legal basis: your explicit consent (Art. 6.1.a GDPR).
Mailcoach hosts data within the EU/EEA and does not transfer it outside. The newsletter mailing itself does not set any cookies on this site.
Article 4 — How to control cookies
4.1 Through the cookie banner
On your first visit, a banner asks for your consent. You can accept all, reject all (except strictly necessary), or customise by category.
4.2 Changing your mind later
Use the Manage your cookie preferences link on this page (or the "Cookies" link in the footer) to re-open the banner and change your choices at any time.
4.3 In your browser
All modern browsers let you view, block and delete cookies. Help pages for the most common browsers:
Blocking strictly necessary cookies may break parts of the site, for example the contact form's anti-bot check.
Article 5 — Your rights
You have all rights described in our Privacy Statement, including the right to withdraw consent at any time and the right to file a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority.
Article 6 — Changes to this Cookie Policy
When we add, remove or materially change the cookies we use, we update this page and bump the version + date in the header. If the change affects what you previously consented to, the cookie banner will reappear so you can confirm or update your choice.
Article 7 — Applicable law
This Cookie Policy is governed exclusively by Belgian law. The courts of Ghent have exclusive jurisdiction for any disputes.
Article 8 — Contact
For privacy or cookie questions, contact privacy@faqir.eu or our Data Protection Officer at dpo@faqir.eu.
